Americans are sick and tired of lurid tales of AR-15-toting survivalists preparing for Y2K Armageddon. Instead, the media should focus on the nitty-gritty of whether local electric utilities and 911 services will be up-and-running come 2000.

At least that's what a survey released today says. It was conducted in early January by the Freedom Forum's Media Studies Center. 1,002 adults were interviewed. The questions asked follow:

1. Overall, how would you rate the job the news media are doing — excellent, good, fair, or poor?
