T-Shirts and other Y2KWear By Solveig Singleton April 29, 1999
Get your Y2K wear now! Hey, just imagine what it'll be worth in 2050. We've checked out a lot of Y2K T-shirts to bring you the best, the brightest -- and the miserably commonplace. Most plentiful are the party-themed shirts. If you think hangovers are funny, try the shirts at the y2kzone.com; our favorite is "Armageddon Eve". More party shirts are available at year2000products.com in white or birch. The next category is technocrat humor, in which you get to call yourself Y2K-compliant. Yuk, yuk. Some interesting designs are available at perceptualcreations.com. For a classy, corporate look, check out the "Y2K compliant" shirts at alequus.com. Company logos may be added (check with lawyers for liability first). These shirts are available in white, heather Grey, or Natural Ash (what's with the earthy colors?). Finally, there's "Y2K Tested," 100 percent cotton and preshrunk at pixelforest.com. A nicely designed "Queer Millennium" shirt is available. Also for the gay community: outinspace.com -- profits from the sale of these shirts go to the production of a gay SF movie. File under Y2K rebels: a shirt proclaiming "Y2K FU". Well, we thought it was cool. Also, check out the neat designs at cya4y2k.com. Now, shirts with pagan themes. From woodhart.com, a millenial shirt declaring that "THE ABEND IS COMING." For a shirt with a Mayan theme, check out the "Maya Date T-Shirts." The site promises Y2K-compatible shirts: "You can have any date from 1903 onwards printed in Mayan hieroglyphics... While dates beyond 2000 are now available, you might want to keep in mind that the Maya considered time to be arranged in cycles. Some believe that the completion of the 12th bak'tun will result in the destruction of our own time and the beginning of a new creation; in theory this could occur on December 23, 2012." So watch out. We've saved the best for last: the really good graphics category. The
three best sites we found all featured really nifty Y2K bugs. We
loved the "Phuttt" computer design. The bug at
knowwear.com is awesome -- a space age bug, artfully airbrushed. There's a series of cool black-n-white designs at neumedia.net.
