Y2K Goes Psycho By Solveig Singleton and Declan McCullagh March 2, 1999
It would be overstating the truth to say we enjoyed Gary Morton's latest Y2K short story. In fact, we found it loathsome. But, somehow, we figure that's the point. After all, Morton named it y2kcarnage.com for a very good reason. The title comes from a fictitious Internet TV station. "Y2Kcarnage being a cult created by disgruntled Y2K activists at the end of August 1999. People who were pissed at corporations, nations, city governments and others who refused to cooperate in preparing for the year 2000. They’d set up a world wide video network and web site, vowing to broadcast explicit footage of any Y2K disaster as a way of getting even with those who would not listen," Morton writes. You can guess what happens next. You may not like this story, though we suppose it helps if you're a fan of blood, gore, and helpless female victims. Even given the limitations of the Y2K horror fiction genre, only devotees of slaughterhouse stories are likely to enjoy it. For everyone else, we recommend you check out
Morton's previous Y2K fiction.
